Chanel no.5

Morgan
Are you having a laugh. Boo. It's perfume Baz, not Moulin Rouge.

Blackett
I love this advert. Baz uses elements of the red curtain trilogy to show how extravagent, beautiful and elegant channel is. Ok the story is similair to Moulin Rouge but thats beacuse it's the archetypal love story of people falling in love from two different walks of life and in a couple of minutes you cant tell a whole new story and people be conected to the characters so that is why its like mini moulin rouge. I love this advert, and I love you Baz.

Blakeborough
Sorry Blackett, you're outnumbered on this one. The only reason that Baz made this advert was due to the large wad of cash he was offered to try and rejuvinate Chanel No 5's failing sales. No moral highground here, I'd have jumped at it like Vanessa to a cake. Unfortunately huge production cost does not make a good advert. Case in point...ugly Citroen bubble car.

Blackett
Im not saying that he didn't make it for a bundle of cash, it was well reported the disgustingly large amount of money that Nicole got paid for being in it. But there is no denying that the advert looks fabulous and no matter how twee the story may be its an amazing piece of cinematography and a perfect example of how to make even the shortest film look glamorous.

Blakeborough
Quite right, there is no denying that the advert is in a league of its own visuals-wise. However, I can't help but cringe throughout, knowing that Ms Kidman is taking it entirely seriously.
Come on Baz, you're an amazing director...did you really need to go down the Moulin Rouge route so soon after?
Alas, I fear that there is no end in sight for this debate.
